This bible study is really a short series of brief devotions on stress management that I presented to church leaders. Actually, I
developed it for myself when I took on the part-time position of Director of Music Ministries; having a regular forum to present these
devotions helped my study and research stay on track. Leading
programs in a church usually means making do with scarce financial and staffing resources to achieve goals that are literally as high as
the heavens. Part-time and volunteer leaders also
wrestle with the scarcity of their own time. If those limitations and goals are internalized by a church leader, it results in very
high stress levels. The answer,
naturally, is God's guidance, power, and love, as expressed beautifully in Psalm 23:4:
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil:
For thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
This series of devotions will combine practical stress
management approaches with scripture to show how to let God lead more fully in our ministries.
